New data protection laws in Switzerland and the EU – What companies need to know

As part of our “Lunch & Law” event series, in which we regularly discuss selected legal topics over lunchtime, we gave an introduction into the new data protection laws in Switzerland (Draft DPA) and the EU (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR) on 24 January 2018 and laid out what companies need to know about the new regulations.

After explaining the main features of the new laws, in particular the applicability of EU law in Switzerland, selected aspectes were presented in detail. For example, the extended rights of data subjects and the more extensive information and documentation obligations were discussed as well as possible measures for their implementation. Finally, a proposal was presented on how compliance with the new laws can be tackled in three steps.
