Data breaches and attacks on computer systems, control systems of industrial plants and security gaps in medical equipment are main topics in the 26th semi-annual report of the Reporting and Analysis Centre for Information Assurance MELANI, published on 26 April 2018.
The report lists numerous examples of data leaks, attacks and cyber incidents from the second half of 2017 both in Switzerland and abroad. The incidents clearly show how necessary preventive measures for protection, security and resilience of data and infrastructure are.
The report also addresses the outsourcing of services to external providers. It emphasises that only the service can be outsourced, but never the responsibility and risk. Accordingly, it is important to set up and implement a suitable IT and data security concept and to check compliance with it.
